A Brief History

In 1971 a new form of ice hockey was developed in Norway for physically disabled players. This new form of ice hockey was the same as regular hockey with the exception that the players used a sled to move about the rink. "Sledge Hockey" came to the United States and became a big hit, both in youth leagues and in adult leagues.

In 2003 Mike Pickett, Tom Brake, Kevin and Angela Fee, and John Eberhardt got together and started the first ever sled hockey team in Woodbridge - called The Woodbridge Warriors! Next came the endorsement of United Spinal and the famous New York Rangers to become the United Spinal Youth Rangers. A Thank you goes out to Linda Purn, Lori Zullo, Peter Ochan, and Bill Irving for all their support.

Today the United Spinal Youth Rangers are an integral part of the Atlantic Sled Hockey League. After a start where wins were a rare commodity - These Youth Rangers developed as a team, and had a winning 2005-2006 season

Future of the team is positive. The players, coaches, and fans enjoy the games for the sake of the game and will continue in the spirit of true sportsmanship. The United Spinal Youth Rangers, once again, look forward to a fun and rewarding 2006-2007 season!
